When Passion Breaks Every Barrier
A historic day for Passione Quad: Marco Beati showed us that the love for the Territory knows no limits
There was a day, during this 56th edition of the Toscanello d’Oro, that will remain forever etched in the memory of all of us at Passione Quad. Not only for the beauty of the route through the vineyards and mule tracks, not only for the special atmosphere of these days of celebration, but above all for having experienced a moment that gave concrete form to the values that have always guided our association.
A Quad Tour Without Compromise
Marco came to us with a special story. A former motocrosser, he knows the thrill of driving in nature even on challenging terrain. Unfortunately, five years ago a bad accident changed his life and although since that day he has used a wheelchair and a car with steering wheel controls to move around in his daily activities, his passion for off-road driving has never faded.
When we spoke on the phone, his determination was palpable. He had seen some videos of people with disabilities similar to his who drove the quad independently. He didn't ask us for any facilities or special routes: he simply wanted to participate in our Toscanello Quad Tour. And so it was.
On the morning of the tour, Marco reached our stand in the center of Pontassieve and, after studying the vehicle, the height of the saddle and the available grip points, he climbed onto the quad completely alone, with an athletic gesture that to tell the truth also made us feel a little awkward in our desire to make ourselves useful without it actually being necessary.
After a short technical briefing to check the accessibility of all the controls and to give the right advice on how to use the vehicle, our excursion began. A mixed route and in some places not at all trivial that Marco faced carrying his partner as a passenger, without any particular adaptation or special equipment: just one of our standard quads and his determination.
The most exciting moment? Hard to say! In addition to us guides, there were other participants on the tour and sharing this experience all together made us really happy.
An inclusive practice to be conquered
Questa esperienza ha reso tangibile quello in cui crediamo da sempre: il quad è davvero uno sport inclusivo. La curva di apprendimento veloce per un’utilizzo di base, la possibilità di guidare anche esclusivamente con i comandi al volante e la possibilità di trasportare un passeggero, lo rendono davvero un mezzo accessibile a chiunque voglia mettersi in gioco.
E non parliamo solo di disabilità: rendere il territorio fruibile a coloro che per limiti fisici, di età o di predisposizione, o per qualsiasi altro motivo, avrebbero difficoltà a esplorarlo diversamente è un ideale nel quale ci riconosciamo a pieno. Democratizzare l’accesso al territorio, anche nei suoi scorci più remoti, a locals o turisti, bambini o anziani o persone con diverse abilità, è uno dei nostri valori fondanti.
Dall’altra parte, le escursioni in quad come ogni altra attività sportiva non sono prive di rischi, quindi l’inclusività di cui parliamo non deve essere assolutamente confusa con una pratica che può essere svolta da chiunque e magari con leggerezza. Le nostre guide, i nostri istruttori e tutti i nostri associati sono infatti ben consapevoli dei rischi e della responsabilità che assumono verso se stessi e verso gli altri quando si mettono alla guida di un quad. Un’attività accessibile a tutti quindi ma di fatto non per tutti, una pratica che necessita di essere rispettata e compresa, una libertà per niente scontata tutta da conquistare anche grazie alla condivisione e al supporto dell’associazione.
A Welcoming Territory
Il Toscanello Quad Tour è stato un successo quasi inaspettato con le decine di persone che in questi 5 giorni si sono alternate sui nostri quad: dai più avventurosi frequentatori del Toscanello, a chi non ne aveva mai sentito parlare e l’ha conosciuto con l’occasione, dai gruppi di amici alle giovani coppie, famiglie intere con nonni e nipoti, persone come Marco, ognuno con la sua storia. Tutto questo è stato possibile grazie alla sensibilità e all’apertura delle istituzioni, del Sindaco di Pontassieve Carlo Boni, delle Aziende del Chianti Rufina e di tutta l’Associazione Pro Loco di Pontassieve, vera spina dorsale e organizzatrice del Toscanello d’Oro. Siamo stati accolti fin da subito con entusiasmo e sempre messi nelle condizioni di operare al meglio per tutta la durata dell’evento. Celebrare le eccellenze del territorio con un percorso inclusivo è stato un modo davvero speciale per presentare le nostre attività e far emergere il nostro desiderio di creare valore per l’intera comunità.
La nostra presenza vuole essere infatti una possibilità in più, in sintonia con chi da sempre frequenta questi luoghi e mai un limite all’esperienza di escursionisti, ciclisti o persone a cavallo. Il rispetto reciproco e la condivisione degli spazi sono alla base del nostro approccio: percorrere ogni strada con attenzione, rispettare chi si incontra lungo il percorso, dimostrare che il nostro territorio, spesso poco valorizzato, può accogliere chiunque lo desideri purché ci si muova con consapevolezza e rispetto.
Always Looking Forward
Marco told us that he has many friends in the world of Paralympic sports and it was natural to say goodbye with the idea that this positive experience could open the doors to new adventures, to new encounters, to new friendships that arise from sharing a common passion.
When we saw Marco get on and off the quad completely independently, smiling as he tested himself on a challenging mule track and at the same time sharing the experience with his partner and the whole group with him, we understood that we are doing something more than organizing a simple quad excursion: we are building a community where the passion for nature and adventure can truly be within everyone's reach, or rather, as we always like to remember, anyone who is ready to get involved.
